IVF can feel overwhelming, but for some couples it provides the only opportunity to become parents. The rate of success for IVF is much higher than natural fertility. The procedure involves collecting your eggs and sperm, combining them in our laboratory, and transferring an embryo in to the uterus, usually after 5 days, as a blastocyst. Transferring embryos on day 5 (instead of day 3 as used to be common) dramatically increases pregnancy rates. However, it also requires the technology and know-how to culture embryos to this stage.
